If you’re not dreaming big for yourself, who’s doing it for you? Gary Vaynerchuck

Gary Vay-Ner-Chuk is unquestionably one of the most influential people in business, marketing, and social media. An entrepreneur, author, and social media master, he has over 1.2m followers on Instagram, 1.4m followers on Twitter, over 500k subscribers on YouTube, and almost 1.5m followers on Facebook.

Vaynerchuk is loud on social media. He uses everyday language, such as “Fucking follow me right now” on his YouTube videos and his fame and style give the “right” to many people to criticize him. In an interview he gave at ‘Fortune,’ he says that when people tell him “You’ve only achieved this because you’re big on social media,” I say, “want to see my calendar?” In the same interview, Daniel Roberts shares with his readers that Vaynerchuk showed them his calendar on his phone and that it was packed every day with meetings, phone calls, presentations and more.

How can he be so productive?

If you follow Gary Vee on his social media, you can almost feel how much passion he has for what he does. His businesses are all successful for two main reasons, he works hard, and he’s also very famous online. Some criticize him by saying that he’s so successful because he is famous on social media, but if you check his story out, he started an online wine store in 1997, called the Social media weren’t around like today back then but Vaynerchuk he was one of the very few to launch an online wine store as he saw the opportunity of the internet first. That shows that he is quick to adapt to new technologies and trends, and combined with hard work, he’s become very successful and productive.

Focusing on the right activities

Gary Vee has 3-4 main pillars, or as he explains in this DailyVee episode, he has 4 burgers that he eats at all times. He believes that most people don’t focus on the right core activities and they do 1 million other things that will not help sustain their life.

He realised that his personal brand is important for his business success. When you follow him, you can understand that he knows that the productive time someone can have during a day is limited. What he does differently though is that after realizing what’s important for his success he started investing his valuable time on the right things on a daily basis.

Perfection is a matter of perspective. Don’t try too hard to achieve perfection, just do things.

Following his vlogs on YouTube someone can soon realize that he is a CEO who manages his people on a very personal level, he is a businessman who meets with customers and collaborators all over the world, and he is an influencer who makes time for his fans to go and meet him. To make sure that he has time to continuously build on his personal brand he is recording everything he does and shares it with the world in the forms of video, audio, and microblogging.

“You don’t need to be a superman to be so productive, you just need to find out what you need to focus on and work smart on the right things”

Find out what you need to focus on

There are different techniques that you can use in order to find out what you need to focus on. When you start thinking about what works for you though, you will soon realize that self-awareness and reflection are key elements to the “finding out what you need to focus on” process.

In his interview with Gary Vaynerchuk, Larry King asks Gary, at around the 4 minutes spot, “You are big on self-awareness, right?” Gary says “Yeah” Larry follows up “How does one get to be self-aware?” and Gary says “I don’t know” and naturally Larry asks “So, how do you teach it?” with Gary saying “I don’t know! But I know is damn important!

It is important to be self-aware! You will never figure out what works and what doesn’t if you are not.

Tools to help you improve your self-awareness

There are many smartphone and desktop apps available in the market to help us be more productive and optimize our life. I have put a list of 10 apps here some of which are helping me be more productive and I am confident that will help you too.

On top of the apps, you can always read some amazing books. One of my personal favorites is the 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss.

Motivated by fictional heroes

My favorite “hero” is Monkey D. Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hats pirate group in the manga and anime series One Piece

Reading stories like the One Piece story makes me remember that I like to be a hero too and if I work hard enough I might be a hero to some people one day.
